The Broadway Bound Musical Theatre Company is now in its third decade under the direction of founder Dedra Daniels Mount, having become one of Columbia’s most successful avenues for educating young people (ages 4 to 20) in dance and voice for musical theatre, while also providing performance opportunities for these young artists beyond standard theatrical productions. The company’s participation in regional competitions gives its members the chance to be critiqued by professional judges, at the same time promoting a sense of team unity.
Auditions
Auditions are required for the musical theatre company and are offered each summer in the form of master classes in dance for musical theatre, voice and improvisation games. Members of the preceding year’s company must re-audition for Broadway Bound each year.
Teams
The members of the Broadway Bound Musical Theatre Company are divided into teams with an eye toward creating effective blends of skills, talent and experience. Broadway Bound also offers audition-only specialty teams that are open to Broadway Bound members and non-members. These include:
Available Classes
Broadway Bound teams of 11 or more members meet once a week for 90 minutes. Teams with 10 or fewer members meet for 60 minutes a week. A team of younger members meets for 30 minutes a week. A second “junior team” for younger members with more experience meets for 45 minutes a week.
Tuition for Broadway Bound teams is actually an annual fee that is divided into nine equal installments. A full month’s tuition is due and payable on the first class of each month, September through May, regardless of the number of classes offered during the month.
Additional dance classes are available for company members in the following formats: Private; Duo; Trio; Quartet; and Small Group (5-6 members). Also available are: Junior Ballet Group Class (30 minutes per week); Ballet/Contemporary Group Class (1 hour per week); and Acrobatics Class (multiple sessions per week).
Private, Duo, Trio and Quartet voice lessons are also available.
Tuition information is available on request.

- The Flappers of Broadway Bound: Under the direction of Dedra Daniels Mount, this team for experienced tap dancers focuses on a variety of styles. Auditions are held through summer tap classes. The Flappers meet once a month, September through May, to learn one or more routines that are taken to regional competitions.
- Scenes & Monologues Teams: Young actors ages 10 to 20 have the opportunity to work collectively and as individuals to prepare a variety of monologues and small scenes. Meeting weekly from September through May, the teams present their own showcase and participate in at least one regional competition. The teams are an excellent way for members to prepare spring audition pieces for Tri-DAC, the Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities, summer programs like Broadway Theatre Project, colleges, universities and conservatories.
- Adult Team: This team for parents and others over age 20 meets weekly to prepare a number for presentation during the showcase. It includes vocals, dance for musical theatre and tap!
