The memory lived again when the Broadway Bound Vista Theatre Project (BBVTP) presented CATS – one of the biggest hits in theatrical history – August 1-4 in Cardinal Newman School’s Anna Tronco Williams Performing Arts Center, 2945 Alpine Road.
Composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber and based on T.S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, this record-breaking musical spectacular has captivated audiences in over 30 countries and 15 languages, and the BBVTP's production played to packed houses for every performance.
Opening in London’s West End in 1981, CATS debuted on Broadway in 1982, winning seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and running for 7,485 performances and 18 years. The original Broadway production closed on September 10, 2000, and is currently the fourth longest-running show in Broadway history. CATS returned to Broadway in 2016, running for 593 performances and playing its final performance on December 30, 2017, with Columbia native (and Broadway Bound alum) Mackenzie Warren in the final cast as Bombalurina.
The BBVTP’s cast of Jellicle Cats included Tracy Steele (Oliver!) as Munkustrap, Midlands theatre favorite Bobby Craft as Old Deuteronomy, Lanny Spires (Seussical) as Rum Tum Tugger, Stephanie Villamizar as Grizabella, Leighton Mount-Rossi (Seussical, Lost in My Wonderland) as Jennyanydots, Merritt Horan (Lost in My Wonderland) as Mistoffelees, Heather Hinson (Seussical, Lost in My Wonderland) as Jellylorum, Ed Davis (Snoopy!!!, Lost in My Wonderland) as Gus the Theatre Cat, Romell Dash as Skimbleshanks, Brianna Taylor (Columbia Classical Ballet) as Bombalurina, Mattie Mount (Oliver!, Lost in My WonderlandI) as Demeter, Sydney Davis (Lost in My Wonderland) & Olivia Timmerman (Lost in My Wonderland) as Mungojerrie & Rumpleteazer, Matt Wright as Macavity, and Kat Blanchard as Victoria.

A silent auction of items for cat lovers of all ages was held throughout the run of the show as a fundraiser for the Broadway Bound Vista Theatre Project, a non-profit community-based musical and dramatic performing arts organization created to present quality family entertainment and to provide opportunities for children and adults to develop talents in all aspects of theatre arts.
CATS was sponsored by Ken & Cheryl Wheat and Davis Orthodontics.
